Students in grades K-12 will begin the new school year with a staggered start over a two-day period.

• Thursday, Aug. 13 - Grades K-6 students with last names A-L, Grades 7, 9, & 12
• Friday, Aug. 14 -  Grades K-6 students with last names M-Z, Grades 8, 10, & 11
• Monday, Aug. 17 - all students together

Staggering our start helps teachers put students in a smaller group setting to accelerate relationship building while learning routines.

Families with children who have different last names and would like their children to attend school on the same day are able to do so. In K-6, share that information with your child's teacher.

MECC, ME, MMS & MHS - August 12
Families of students in grades K-4 and 7-12 will have opportunities to visit the school together and meet teachers on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Students with last names M-Z:  2nd Grade, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.; AM Kindergarten, 1:30 - 2:00 p.m.; PM Kindergarten, 2:00 - 2:30 p.m.; 1st Grade, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Why is MI's Orientation Day different than other schools this year?
We recognized that having Mason Elementary and Mason Intermediate School's Family Orientation Day on the same day created parking issues, and other logistical challenges when having both schools' families all on the campus together at the same time. We adjusted and adapted, and it was a better experience for families who were eager to participate in all the welcoming activities that our staff planned. 

Elementary Schools (Grades K–6)

For our elementary Comets, Mason City Schools will now provide all essential classroom materials using school fee funds. This means every child will walk into their classroom on the first day of school with the supplies they need to fully engage in learning.

Families are only asked to provide a few personal items, including a backpack or school bag, a basic organizational tool such as a folder, binder, or organizer, and, for students in grades 3–6, a pencil pouch. All other materials (including classroom supplies, technology, headphones, and consumable items like crayons, markers, dry-erase markers, and glue sticks used throughout the year) are covered by school fees.

Secondary Schools (Grades 7–12)

At the secondary level, students will continue to take greater ownership of their materials while benefiting from clearer, more consistent expectations. Students in grades 7–12 should plan to bring a backpack and basic organizational supplies, such as binders, folders, and writing utensils. View the MMS school supplies for 7th and 8th grade by subject. After school begins, additional supplies may be needed for specific courses or electives.

Families will be able to pay school fees on PaySchools Central.  MHS families will be notified in September when fees are available to pay in PaySchools Central.

In the Extended Care program, children have the convenience of care right in their elementary schools, allowing them to easily participate in developmentally appropriate school activities. Each school site is equipped with toys, games, arts and craft materials and homework supplies.

Experienced staff members will provide students with a variety of planned activities, special projects and enrichment opportunities. 

The Extended Care days of operation coincide with the Mason City Schools calendar.  The Extended Care program opens at 6:15am until school begins (session one) and after school ends until 6:00pm (session two). Daily snacks are provided in the morning and afternoon.

The Extended Care Program is $8.50 per hour per child for MECC, Mason Elementary and Mason Intermediate. There is a six hour minimum for each session - morning (session one) and afternoon (session two). There is an annual registration fee of $100 per family, and a supply fee of $25 per student. A refundable deposit $150 fee per student is due upon registration. This refundable deposit will be used to cover any unpaid fees at the end of the school year or when your child leaves the program.

It is important to check your child's transportation information again before school begins.  Changes may occur due to processing family change requests and new family move-ins.

Every attempt is made to place a student at a stop closest to their residence.  However if families choose to have their student utilize a different stop, parents may request updates to a different, existing stop.  A new stop will likely not be created on an existing route.

In order to ensure that bus drivers can successfully and safely drive their routes at the beginning of the year, drivers receive routes ahead of time to practice. Consequently, it is important to have all changes in our system at least two weeks before school begins so that routes are properly built and practiced.

If parents know that they will be utilizing child care outside the home, changes must be submitted by a transportation change request.

There will be a chance to get on and off the bus and learn about bus safety.

Students who drive to school are expected to purchase a parking permit.  Parking passes are sold throughout the year requiring a valid driver’s license at the time of purchase.  Applications are available online. School fees must be paid prior to purchasing a permit. The parking rate for the school year will be as follows:

Permits:     $50.00

Student Parking

Students must display a parking permit and the student code of conduct applies to the parking lot areas. 

Students found parking without a permit, in an unassigned area/spot, or failing to display their permit are subject to disciplinary action. (Note: This includes the staff area of Mason Middle School and Mason Intermediate School).  

Improper Vehicle Operation: Students operating their vehicles in an unsafe manner will have their parking privileges suspended or revoked and be subject to the appropriate traffic citation.

Note:  There are no refunds for parking once the pass has been purchased (this includes early graduates.)  Parking passes are non-transferable; registration is student specific and passes may not be given or sold to another student.

No.  Changes can be made by emailing rovitoj@masonohioschools.com, or you can submit the revised information on the Parking Signature Form, a paper document, which is required at the time of parking pass pick-up.

Unfortunately, no. Parking spots are assigned on a first come/first serve basis (according to the timestamp of your registration, not payment). If all Senior spots fill, a Senior spot waitlist begins. You will be sold a remote lot pass and you then will be advised when/if a Senior spot opens up during the school year. 
*You will only receive an email from Mrs. Rovito by May 23rd IF you have been placed on a Senior spot waitlist.

Yes, the registration form is always the first step in the process. The General Parking Registration Form will remain open until July 12th.
After July 14th, seniors only, and July 20 for other grades, you may bring in a signed proof of payment made on PaySchools, a copy of your driver’s license, and a photo of your license plate.  As long as spots are still available, a pass can be issued.

No, you will not receive an email to confirm that you will receive a parking spot. Instead, if parking spots are not available, you will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified by email on 5/23/26.
* If you registered but have not received a waitlist email on 5/22/26, then you are to assume that a parking spot is reserved for you.

No, Senior parking is determined this spring by the timestamp of your registration and will not change unless you fail to purchase your pass by 2:30 p.m., Friday, August 21st. Time of payment does not influence location. Corwin Nixon passes are assigned a number, but parking spots are on a first come, first serve basis each school day. Middle School spots are assigned spots and are assigned based on registration timestamp.

The passes are $50.00 each and are not prorated.

The only accepted form of payment is an electronic payment via PaySchools* and the account must be free of outstanding fees. 

If you have not received a waitlist email, you can make payment via PaySchools beginning on Tuesday, July 13th.

No. Payment must be made prior to picking up your parking pass as there are no transactions at the time of pass pick up. Please allow 24 hours for the payment to post. Please take a screenshot of the email confirmation sent from Payschools (this should include date and time of payment, as well as the confirmation number).

The deadline to purchase & pick up your pass will be Friday, August 21st. If you do not purchase & pick up your pass by that date, it will be released and will be available for future drivers.

Seniors ONLY will be able to pick up their parking passes July 16-17.  
All grades can pick up their passes starting July 20.

Mason City Schools Menus

Families who may qualify for free and reduced meals based on income or other qualifying factors will need to complete the free & reduced lunch application form. Form will be available after July 1st.

Regardless of previous qualifications, the meal benefits application must be completed on an annual basis.

Yes! PaySchoolsCentral allows families to move money between students’ meal accounts.

Ohio law requires children to have certain immunizations to attend school.  View the Immunization Requirements.

All immunization records must be provided to your school nurse before the 14th day of school to ensure your child can continue attending school. Records can be provided on Final Forms, in a paper format or emailed/faxed from you or your doctor's office to your school nurse. 

Incoming 7th Graders: All incoming seventh-graders are required by law to have one dose each of the MCV4 (Meningococcal) vaccine and Tdap (Diptheria, Tetanus & Pertusis) booster vaccine. 

Incoming 12th Graders: All incoming seniors are required by law to provide an updated shot record showing proof of two doses of the MCV4 (Meningococal) vaccine. If the first dose was given on or after the 16^th birthday, a second dose is not required. A record of these updated vaccines must be sent to your school’s main office before the start of the new school year. 

Warren County Immunization & Child Health Clinic

According to the Warren County Health Department guidelines, if your child was born outside of the U.S., has been in the country for less than five years, and is coming to Mason City Schools from a country or area identified by the Ohio Department of Health and/or US Centers for Disease Control as an area of a high incidence of tuberculosis, they must submit proof of negative tuberculosis skin test. This requirement also applies to a student returning from travel to a high-incidence region if the travel duration is two months or longer. If submitting a TB skin test with a positive result, a negative chest e-ray or QuantiFERON test result proving the non-existence of active tuberculosis must be submitted before the student may attend school. 

Kindergarten Students
Families of kindergarten students need to share proof of an updated physical within the last year through Final Forms or with MECC nurse Patty Gast, RN. 

New to Mason Students
New Comet families need to share proof of their children's updated physical within the last year through Final Forms or with their school nurse. 

Athletes
Comet athletes need a current (within the last year) physical on file. Log into FinalForms to ensure your athlete's physical is updated.  
 

Schedules will be available on PowerSchool Mobile app on July 30.

Please add support@masonohioschools.com to your contact list. We have found that when our support specialists reply to your ticket, the response often lands in Spam or Junk Email due to using an external ticketing system.  Even if the initial email is received, replies tend to be problematic.

You will need your student’s ID number to set up the account.  You will also need your credit card or checking account information, your personal email address, home address and phone number.  You can login at https://payschoolscentral.com or download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

 
Once you are registered, PaySchoolsCentral will send you a confirmation email that is valid for 30 minutes.  If not activated within 30 minutes, please return to https://payschoolscentral.com and click forgot my password to request a new email.

Mason City Schools will gladly accept payments in person!

Cash, check, or credit card payments can be made at your school office for student fees, both school and optional fees.

Meals money can be sent with the student in the lunch line or paid at Mason City Schools Central Office drop box.  You can also mail payments to Mason City Schools Student Nutrition Office, 211 North East Street, Mason, OH 45040.
