Gifted Testing
Mason students are eligible for two cognitive assessments each year for the purpose of a new gifted identification. Students with an existing gifted identification in cognitive ability are not eligible to request testing again for the purpose of a potential change in services.
Registration Deadlines
- Winter Testing: Friday, Nov. 18, 2022
- Spring Testing (Grades K, 1, 3, 5, & 6): Friday, Feb. 10, 2023
- Spring Testing (Grades 2 & 4): Friday, March 3, 2023
KINDERGARTEN
All testing will be conducted during the regular school day. Students will be pulled from their general education classroom, and will not follow their typical schedule during testing time.
- Winter: November 29, 30, December 1, 2022 (a.m. and p.m. sessions)
- Spring: March 6, 7, 8, 2023 (a.m. and p.m. sessions)
You will not receive an immediate confirmation of your registration, instead confirmation and testing details and reminders will be emailed to you from the Office of Gifted Services prior to the test.
Students are required to attend all days of testing - in the event of a child’s illness, please contact the building attendance office.
To register for the spring cognitive test session please complete the Mason City Schools Gifted Identification Testing Registration Form.
GRADE 1
All testing will be conducted during the regular school day. Students will be pulled from their general education classroom, and will not follow their typical schedule during testing time.
- Winter: December 5, 6, 7, 2022 (a.m. session)
- Spring: March 13, 14, 15, 2023 (a.m. session)

Sixth grade students are eligible to register for the cognitive assessment for the purpose of a potential gifted identification. However, students do not need a gifted identification in order to self-select into academic enrichment, honors, and AP courses in grades 7-12.
