Gifted Testing

All Mason students are eligible for two cognitive assessments each year.  Students with an existing gifted identification in cognitive ability and who  are currently receiving collaboration gifted services are now eligible to request testing up to two times this year for the purpose of a potential change in services for the 2024-2025 school year.  This reflects a change in our previous testing practices.

Registration Deadlines

In order to have appropriate staffing and test materials, we must adhere to the registration deadline.  We will not be able to accept late registrations for any reason.

  • Spring Testing
    • MECC:  Friday, March 1, 2024
    • ME and MI:   Friday, March 15, 2024

As we work diligently to design a gifted test schedule that will best accommodate staff and students, we ask you to register your student only if necessary by accessing the grade level specific information below.

KINDERGARTEN
All testing will be conducted during the regular school day. Students will be pulled from their general education classroom, and will not follow their typical schedule during testing time.  The testing schedule will allow for minimal time out of the classroom.

  • Spring:  March 11, 12, 13 (a.m. and p.m. sessions)

You will not receive an immediate confirmation of your registration, instead confirmation and testing details and reminders will be emailed to you from your child's school prior to the test.

Students are required to attend all days of testing - in the event of a child’s illness, please contact the building attendance office.

Testing Options for Grades 3, 4, 5, & 6
Gifted testing for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 at Mason Elementary and Mason Intermediate will occur during ONE of TWO times/options.  Families registering their student for gifted identification testing should choose ONE option that works best for you and your student.  Please know that once a choice for a testing session has been made, we will not allow changes to be made due to staffing and testing preparations that need to be made.

  • Before School Testing:  This option is preferred if possible, in order to minimize the loss of valuable instructional time.  Testing will take place over two consecutive mornings, with arrival being at the same time each day.  Transportation for students must be arranged by the student's family or caregivers.  Students are asked to arrive at school NO LATER than 7:00 a.m. for the testing session that will begin no later than 7:15 a.m.  Testing will be completed each morning no later than 9:00 a.m.  By choosing this option you would potentially minimize a student's time out of the classroom/core content areas/specials time.
  • During School Testing:  This option should be reserved for students who are not able to attend before school testing.  The assessment will take place over two consecutive days.  Students will report to school at their normal time )via their typical school transportation) and will then be called down to the testing site after checking in with their homeroom teacher.  Testing will be completed in the morning (between 8:45 and 10:45), at the beginning of our student's school day.  We will complete testing each day BEFORE students' lunch and recess times.

You will not receive an immediate confirmation of your registration, instead confirmation and testing details and reminders will be emailed to you from the Office of Gifted Services prior to the test.

Students are required to attend all days of testing - in the event of a child’s illness, please contact the building attendance office.

Sixth grade students are eligible to register for the cognitive assessment for the purpose of a potential gifted identification. However, students do not need a gifted identification in order to self-select into academic enrichment, honors, and AP courses in grades 7-12.
