COVID-19

 If your child has a positive COVID-19 test result, they should stay home and isolate for 5 days, and may wear a mask for the next 5 days and return to school on day 6 if symptom-free. 

Quarantine is no longer recommended by the CDC for people who are exposed to COVID-19 except in certain high-risk congregate settings such as correctional facilities, homeless shelters, and nursing homes.

MCS Students are not required to stay home if there is a positive case at home, but if families choose to keep a sibling home, that will be an excused absence.

The CDC recommends the following actions if you're exposed to COVID-19:

1. Watch symptoms for 10 days
2. Wear a mask around others indoors for 10 days
3. Test 5 days after exposure *or sooner if you have symptoms)
4. Take extra precautions for 10 days when around people more likely to get very sick

As with other communicable diseases, the Mason City School District follows the notification requirements that come from the Warren County Health district. In Ohio, health departments are the governmental body responsible for contact tracing and notifying in cases of exposure. 

Please report your child is ill by calling 1-855-339-9012 or on the SchoolMessenger app.

As in the case of any communicable disease (like flu, strep, whooping cough, etc.) you may also email your school nurse to let her know that your child has tested positive for COVID-19.
