Gifted Services at Mason City Schools
Gifted services at Mason City Schools are designed to provide students with meaningful challenge, opportunities for growth, and learning experiences that respond to their strengths and needs.
Because students grow and change over time, gifted services look different across grade levels. The type of service a student receives may also depend on their area of gifted identification. Our goal is to provide a continuum of support that evolves with students as they move from elementary school through graduation.
Our Gifted Service Model
Mason’s Gifted Service Model Compass represents a continuum of support designed to recognize student strengths, provide appropriate challenge, encourage growth, and nurture potential. As students move through Mason City Schools, the way services are delivered may change, while the goal remains the same: helping gifted learners continue to grow.

Understanding the Connection in Ohio Law
Gifted Identification
Gifted identification means a student has met Ohio’s criteria in a specific gifted area (Superior Cognitive, Specific Academic, Creative Thinking, Visual/Performing Arts). Once identified, that status remains part of the student's permanent educational record in Ohio.
Gifted Services
Gifted services are the learning opportunities and supports provided based on the student’s grade level, area of identification, and Mason City Schools’ Gifted Service Model aligned to state standards.
