Quests are special Journey Day experiences offered by community partners. These optional experiences reflect our belief that growing citizens begins in a Connected CommUNITY. Quests help students see how their gifts and interests can make an impact beyond the classroom, while building relationships with those who support and inspire them.

What: Students will have an opportunity to tour our Post, learn about the history, mission and purpose of the American Legion, and hear from a panel of Veterans on their experience of service.

What: Students will spend the day at Camp Joy engaging in hands-on team-building, nature-based learning, and reflective activities designed to foster connection, communication, and personal growth. From a warm welcome and icebreakers to large group challenges and a peaceful closing circle, the experience is both enriching and aligned with academic and social-emotional goals.

What: Interact with a Mason Police Officer and learn how to process a crime scene! Participants will learn how to process fingerprints, discuss other crime scene processing techniques and get an inside look at how the City of Mason Police Department solves crimes in the community.

What: Freestyle Swim Clinic: Aligning with the City of Mason’s goal to teach all residents how to be safe in the water, Mason Community Center will host a free community swim clinic to highlight the importance of water safety and to provide instruction for swimming with a focus on freestyle stroke. While this program is open to individuals ages 5 – 18, participants should be comfortable and confident with completing a continuous 25 meter freestyle swim.

What: Mosaic Climbing offers age-differentiated Journey Day programming designed to provide students from kindergarten through high school with an engaging, educational climbing experience that builds confidence, teamwork, and physical literacy. The programs are designed to help students learn how they can honor their
interests by devoting time and energy toward building community. Students will be tasked with age-appropriate projects that encourage compassionate reflection, empathetic problem-solving, and connection and collaboration with their peers, all while engaging in physically and mentally stimulating climbing activity.

The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge
What: Putting and Chipping Clinic at the Grizzly: Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of short game techniques at the Chip & Putt Clinic at the Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge, one of Mason’s wellness amenities. Whether you’re new to golf or looking to improve your skills, this hands-on clinic offers expert tips and fun practice focused on chipping and putting – key shots that lower scores and build confidence on the course. Participants are welcome to bring their own clubs however clubs can be provided complement of The Grizzly.

What: CrossFit Mason is happy to invite you to an hour of fitness, connection, and fun. Kids will get an introduction to proper movement and will be challenged to participate in a workout that can be geared to all skill and ability levels. They will also participate in some age-specific games.
Performance training holds tremendous value physically, mentally, and beyond. It helps kids discover their ability to achieve through dedicated effort, and gives them the confidence to take on challenges both inside and outside the gym. Our performance training is designed to help them to become the best versions of themselves. We look forward to the opportunity to give our Comets an immersive experience in the world of CrossFit-style training. Closed-toe gym shoes and comfortable gym clothes. Bring a water bottle; there is a place to refill them.

What: Learn hands-on techniques to defend yourself in a dangerous situation. This includes hands on training covering low level self-defense moves and simulated self-defense situations.

What: Step inside City of Mason Fire Station 51 for a behind the scenes look at the lifesaving work Mason’s first responders do every day. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the fire apparatus bay, see equipment up close and learn how the City of Mason Fire Department prepares for fire, rescue and emergency medical calls.

What: Participants can gain real-world insight into a career in public service through a job shadowing experience with the City of Mason Public Utilities Department. Participants will team up with an Environmental Technician to discover how science, engineering, and environmental stewardship comes together at one of the most critical facilities to the protection, health, safety and welfare of the community the City of Mason Water Reclamation Plant. Participants will work alongside field professionals to learn how the City oversees wastewater treatment operations at this state of the art facility, as well as maintains the City’s wastewater and stormwater system. This behind the scenes opportunity offers valuable insight into a field that manages critical Infrastructure that protects public health and the environment. This opportunity is ideal for individuals exploring a career in environmental science, utilities and skilled trades.

What: In today’s society, active threats can occur in any environment. This safety workshop, facilitated by City of Mason Police Officers, will cover historical trends of these events and empower you with decision making skills on the three basic actions that can be taken should you find yourself in this situation: Run, Hide, Fight.

What: Safety Swim Clinic: The City of Mason has a goal to teach every resident how to be safe in the water. Help us meet this mission by participating in the City’s Safety Swim Clinic at Mason Community Center. Swim professionals will teach participants basic techniques and safe swimming practices. Safety is the first step to confident fun in the water!

What: Participants can gain real-world insight into a career in public service through a job shadowing experience at the City of Mason Service Center. Participants will team up with a Service Coordinator to explore how the Service Department supports the City’s daily operations – from maintaining streets and parks to managing city vehicles and facilities. This hands-on opportunity offers a closer look at the essential work our Service department does to keep the Mason community running safely and smoothly for our residents, businesses and visitors. This is a great opportunity for participants to explore potential career paths in municipal operations and maintenance that does not necessarily require a college degree.

What: Students will work to clean, repair and refurbish used bikes with members of the Kiwanis Club of Mason. All bikes will then become gifts that are given to Comets facing financial hardship as part of the commUNITY Holiday Help initiative.

What: Students organize their very own Costume Drive to support LOVE like JJ's Annual Costume Drive! For this event students will collect a maximum of 5 costumes and then prepare them for LOVE like JJ's Costume Drive by checking that the costumes are in good condition, place them in a gallon size ziploc bag and label the costume's bag with the size and description.

What: Family Walk-In Day!
Families are welcome to volunteer at Matthew 25 Ministries. It is recommended that students and parents volunteer for no longer than 2 hour shifts. Students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult (groups are allowed).
Returning volunteers can just bring their M25 ID card with them. There is nothing the youth need to do/bring. First-time adult volunteers fill out the pre-registration questions prior to your visit using this link Volunteer Registration. Under Group Name please put Journey Days.

What: Pollinator Palooza Program- open house style
What: Trail maintenance and invasive species removal at Armco Park
Great Backyard Bird Count
What: Come out to Armco Park’s Jones’ Pavilion for a morning focused on birds and community! Children will participate in a global citizen science project called the Great Backyard Bird Count, where people all around the world count the birds they see to help scientists better understand and protect birds. Bird feeders will be set up all around Jones’ Pavilion to help with the count and provide an up close look at the winter birds who call Ohio home. Other activities will help families learn about our local birds including their diets, nesting preferences, bird songs, and challenges birds in our area face. You’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for birds and tools to do the Great Backyard Bird Count at your home, making a difference not only for your local birds but also the global birding community.
This program is free, open to the public, and pre registration is requested. All children must be accompanied by a responsible grown up.
