Mirrors & Windows: A Comet CommUNITY Experience
Our Mirrors & Windows experiences celebrate the richness of our community by creating meaningful opportunities for students and families to connect, learn, and grow together. Inspired by Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop's concept of "mirrors" and "windows," these events help students see their own identities and experiences reflected while also exploring cultures, traditions, and perspectives different from their own. Through celebrations like Fiesta Hispana, Black History Fest, Taste of Mason, and our AAPI Celebration, our community comes together to share food, music, performances, stories, and traditions—building empathy, belonging, and a deeper appreciation for the diverse voices that make Mason stronger. Many thanks to the Mason Schools Foundation for sponsoring these events!

CommUNITY Conversations
Great schools are built through great conversations.
Throughout the year, Mason City Schools hosts CommUNITY Conversations and Comet Coffee Talks where families and community members can connect with Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Cooper and district leaders. Join us to learn what's happening in our schools, ask questions, share ideas, and help shape the future of Mason City Schools. Whether we're discussing student learning, school safety, wellbeing, technology, or long-term planning, every conversation helps strengthen our CommUNITY.

Comet CommUNITY Passport

The Comet CommUNITY Passport is a new initiative designed to encourage Mason Comets to experience, celebrate, and invest in the community they serve. Through a series of fun challenges (from attending school performances and athletic events to supporting local businesses, volunteering, exploring parks, and participating in community traditions), staff are invited to discover new connections and create lasting memories with colleagues, friends, and family. More than a checklist, the passport reflects our belief that strong schools and a strong community go hand in hand, helping us strengthen the place we all call home while supporting every learner's journey.
