About MCS

Big Opportunities

Mason City Schools are BIG... and that means BIG opportunities for kids. Whether it's our award-winning STEAM labs in grades K-8, therapy dogs at each school, 27 AP courses, language offerings like American Sign Language, Mandarin and Coding, orchestra, band and theater beginning in 6th grade, or our state champion Ultimate Frisbee team, there's literally a class or club for every Comet - ensuring that each child is known and nurtured during their MCS journey.

More than 10,000 Mason City Schools students are served by 650 faculty and 600 staff members in 5 schools.

Mason Quality

The Mason City School District is nationally recognized for innovation and excellence. Close-knit, forward-thinking, and situated in a great location between Cincinnati and Dayton, we're recognized as a family-friendly, carefully planned, culturally diverse Ohio community that attracts residents and businesses.

Mason City Schools have been named Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the US Department of Education, and the district has an "A+" on the Niche ranking - one of the best school districts in the nation.  The Comets have captured the prestigious GMC All-Sports Trophy every year since entering the Greater Miami Conference in 2007, and the Wm. Mason High School Marching Band has been recognized as one of the premiere marching band programs in the country - consistently ranked as a Bands of America Grand Nationals finalist.

Come experience #MasonQuality and our highly qualified and dedicated educators, rigorous and relevant academics, and excellence enrichment opportunities including nationally recognized arts programs and state champion athletic teams.

Invested Community

PTO and booster organizations, families and community members donate countless hours to tutor students and coordinate musical, theater and athletic events. The Mason Schools Foundation funds $100,000 in grants annually to Mason educators to take their learners "Above & Beyond."

Mason City Schools voters passed a 9.96 mill operating levy in March 2020 by 69 percent.
