Important Changes In The School Counseling Department

The Mason High School School Counseling Department is excited to welcome Ms. Michelle Kohler as the newest member of our school counseling team. Michelle, who has a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling, comes to us with 10 years of experience at Lakota East High School as School and College Counselor for grades 9 to 12.  With the addition of Ms. Kohler, our team has been given an opportunity to restructure our service model to better meet the specific and unique needs of all students.

After a thorough examination of stakeholder feedback via focus groups, student surveys, and numerous student data points, we will be introducing an improved counselor realignment that will enable us to use our individual and collective strengths to maximize our opportunities to advocate, support and serve all learners. Further, the restructuring plan will allow us to provide more equitable services and build stronger, more personalized relationships with students as we promote student success in the areas of academic, social and emotional development.

Of note, all freshmen will be assigned to Ms. Linda Dumstorff or Ms. Megan Korengel.

Ms. Dumstorff and Ms. Korengel will focus exclusively on programming specific to the unique issues that freshman face as they transition to the high school environment.

All sophomores, juniors and seniors will be assigned to one of the following school counselors:  Mr. Tony Affatato, Ms. Phyllis Bell, Mrs. Sally Clark, Mrs. Katie Hicks, Mr. Seth Johnston, Ms. Michelle Kohler, or  Mr. Marty Zack.

We are also pleased to offer additional mental health support which features the newly-formed Hope Squad, school-based therapy, outside referrals, and wrap around coordination of services with the assistance of Mrs. Megan Cameron.

Our entire team is grateful for the support and flexibility of our administration and our Mason community as we embrace innovative strategies to improve our efficiency, our programming, and our responsiveness to all students. We look forward to working with you in August.

All counselor assignments will be listed on student schedules at the beginning of the school year.   Student schedules will be available on Home Access Center beginning August 10 at 8:00 A.M. You can find student counselor assignments in the registration tab of Home Access Center.

New Login information for HAC has been sent to students via their school email accounts.  Please contact Randy Doughman at with any technical difficulties related to logging in.
