Fridays in Western Row teachers Whitney Young and Corri Doenckec’s classrooms are dubbed ‘Friendship Fridays’ to help students when social and emotional issues arise. On Friday, November 4, students of Young’s shared about Growth Mindset versus Fixed Mindset, which they learned all about in the ACT classroom.
“The students wanted to help their classmates think positively,” said Doenecke. “All the kids were amazing and shared posters, cards, and third grader Rachel Sweeney made a model to share with the class.”
After the presentation, Doenecke received a text from Rachel’s mom, Christine Sweeney, to let her know how excited her daughter was about this mission.
“Rachel has been writing positive messages to give classmates before the AIR test to fill their buckets. She has done 100 and wants to do 800,” shared Mrs. Sweeney.
"Rachel wrote 115 notes, and her classmates were so appreciative and surprised!" shared Young.
Sweeney delivered the notes to Janell Bishop's class, who was even more surprised! "Janell's students were getting ready for the AIR test and some of them were anxious, but this made them feel much better."
"I did it because making them for my classmates and other students made me happy!" shared Sweeney
