Bobbie-Jean SingletonMason High School senior Bobbie-Jean Singleton was recognized as The Kiwanis Club of Mason's September Student of the Month. Singleton was nominated by MHS receptionist Phyllis Burpo and Specialized Classroom Aide Michaelanne Sauer.

"Bobbie-Jean has made profound accomplishments in her academics as well as her personal life. She has matured into an outgoing and confident young lady. She does not "shy" away from stopping by and sharing her good news with me at the front desk," shared Burpo.

"Bobbie-Jean always comes in during her free bell to help out with the special needs students in my classroom. My students love her! She has dedicated herself to building a personal connection with each one of them. I know that every student looks forward to sixth bell because they know Bobbie is coming! In addition, Bobbie is always willing to help out the teachers and paraprofessionals with anything they might need to help the class run smoothly--whether it's make copies of worksheets, reading a story to the class, or working with a student 1 on 1. Bobbie-Jean is an overall excellent person whose heart and spirit mean so much to my students," shared Sauer.

Singleton is an active volunteer for Comets in Action, and is taking a leading role in the school’s “Say Something” campaign which takes place October 16-20, 2017. MHS and MMS will join schools around the country in teaching students how to look for warning signs, signals and threats (especially in social media) from a peer who might be planning to hurt themselves or someone else and to say something to a trusted adult to get help and save a life.

On September 14, the Kiwanis Club presented Singleton with $50 and a certificate commemorating her achievement. Family friend Jody Grant, assistant principal Dion Reyes, superintendent Dr. Gail Kist-Kline, Student Assistance Coordinator Suzanne Marshall, and Burpo joined the Kiwanians in recognizing Bobbie-Jean's accomplishments. The Mason Kiwanis Club meets weekly at noon at the Houston Restaurant in Mason.
