Mason High School senior Connor O'Shaughnessey was recognized as The Kiwanis Club of Mason's November Student of the Month. O'Shaughnessey was nominated by MHS Science teacher Barb Shuba for his efforts in spear-heading the National Honor Society's school-wide LipDub to kickoff their annual Leukemia and Lymphoma Fundraiser.
"Connor is a young man who accepted the challenge of a new way of raising awareness and money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He had the vision of creating a LipDub by our entire high school student body. With a lot of hard work and tenacity, he pulled it off. This project required Connor to step out of his comfort zone and to contact other schools, video companies, and convince our administrative team that we should do this. Along the way he acquired an immense knowledge of what an event like this involves and all of the coordination that it requires."
O'Shaughnessey sings tenor in the MHS Men's Choir, and hopes to study finance at The Ohio State University next year.
On November 19, the Kiwanis Club presented O'Shaughnessey with $50 and a certificate commemorating his achievement. Connor’s mom, Sharon O'Shaughnessey, and MHS Assistant Principal Kevin Mays joined the Kiwanians in recognizing O'Shaughnessey’s accomplishments. The Mason Kiwanis Club meets weekly at noon at the Houston Restaurant in Mason.
