McCall & Means-WalkerThe Mason City School District will have two experienced leaders heading its efforts to recruit and retain excellent educators during the 2017-2018 school year. Michelle Means-Walker, EdD and Tonya McCall will oversee the district’s initiatives to ensure that every student has great teachers and administrators - and the teams who support them. Means-Walker and McCall will share and reshape the district’s Human Resources-Talent Management Officer position which became available after Marla Niebling resigned to pursue other opportunities.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Means-Walker and Mrs. McCall have stepped up to lead our talent management efforts this year. These leaders are committed to leveraging our district’s most valuable resource - our people,” says Dr. Gail Kist-Kline, Superintendent.

About Tonya McCall In addition to her new talent management duties, Tonya McCall will continue to serve as Mason Middle School Principal - a role she has held since 2000. She will be paid a stipend for her additional duties. Some of the initiatives that McCall has lead in Mason include reshaping MMS’s culture to a more inclusive leadership model among staff, encouraging risk-taking in an effort to increase innovative thinking and practices, refocusing MMS grading practices to emphasize what students really know and taking into account the fact that they learn at different rates, shaping racial equity professional development for Mason City Schools certified and classified staff, and transitioning the MMS student schedule to accommodate a wider variety of course offerings.

“Mrs. McCall is a proven leader in Mason City Schools. We are fortunate to have someone with her skills and heart to help lead these critical efforts, and appreciate the stability of leadership that she brings,” Dr. Kist-Kline says.

About Michelle Means-Walker Michelle Means-Walker had a 38 year history of serving the people who serve Greater Cincinnati’s children. She was the Associate Superintendent in Princeton City Schools for nine years, Vice President of Human Resources at Great Oaks Career Center for nine years, and most recently an Adjunct Professor at Xavier and a consultant for Battelle For Kids. She is being hired as an HR Talent Management consultant for the 2017-2018 school year, and will work up to 160 days.

“Dr. Means-Walker has the trust and respect as an amazing professional colleague in this region. She is a proven expert in human resources and talent development. I’m so appreciative of her willingness to serve the staff and families of Mason City Schools,” says Dr. Kist-Kline.
