Part of our #CometCulture calls on us to "Own the Moment" by doing the right thing, especially when it is hard. On March 17, 2020 Mason City Schools will be on the ballot with a critical operating levy. Mason has not received new operating levy funds in 15 years. The revenue we are asking voters for is needed to maintain the Mason Quality that exists today. If we fail, this will be the second consecutive levy failure in a decade and our quality and reputation will change.

Please watch this video to learn more about the specific cost structure changes and program reductions should the levy fail.
During many CommUNITY Conversations with parents and community members, I have repeatedly been asked for more clarity about what happens should the levy fail. As Mason's Superintendent and CEO, there is no harder task than developing the plan for what happens on March 18th if the operating levy does not pass. Let me be clear, there are no easy options. These cost structure changes and program reductions will change Mason. Every decision will make an impact that changes who we are as a district, and what we can do for kids and their families.
In order to transparently respond to voters and our families, I want to share how we will do our best to protect core instruction and honor commUNITY input.
Your Mason City Schools employees are public servants - charged with providing your children with the educational opportunities our community's taxpayers choose to pay for and support. We take that charge seriously, and know that March 17th will be an especially important #MasonMoment. If you have any questions about the levy request or would like to schedule a CommUNITY Conversation, please visit www.MasonOhioSchools.com or email communityconvo@masonohioschools.com.
