MHS's HOSA Club Wins 18 Events at StateThis second-year club is busy setting records - and building a legacy. Last year, Mason High School students organized a new school-sponsored organization geared for students interested in the health professions and committed to community service.  Some of the MHS Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Future Health Professionals club's activities includes participating in competitions.

“These competing HOSA students take MHS Biomedical Science classes and have been preparing for competition since August. There is a leadership competition in the fall, then students competed at Regionals in February. The top three from that competition moved on to State, and then the top three from State move onto the International Competition in June,” shared MHS Biomedical Science Teacher and HOSA advisor Susana Maldonado. "At the International Competition, students are offered leadership opportunities through workshops, guest speakers and more. This year they are expecting 12,000 students from around the world to attend the event at the Coronado Springs Resort at Disney World in Orlando."

Sixty-four Mason High School biomed students joined more than 1,900 students from around Ohio at the State Competition.

MHS won 18 out of the 32 events, and 36 MHS students qualified for HOSA's International Leadership Conference on June 20-25.

"Every school has their officers, every state has their officers and every country has their officers. This year two of my students, Matthew Minick and Sriya Suraapaneni, applied for a State officer position. They went through a rigorous process that included testing, interviews, speeches and a question/answer session. I am very proud to announce that they were elected to represent Ohio as Vice President and Reporter!"
