The Mason City Schools Robotics Team 8719, Quantum Leap, placed second at the FIRST® Tech Challenge Ohio State Championship on February 11 at iSPACE Scarlet Oaks campus in Sharonville, OH.
The team went undefeated in the preliminary rounds earning first place among the top 32 teams from Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. Despite winning in the Semi-Finals elimination rounds, they lost in the Finals, falling short with a very thrilling and close finish.
Robotics Team 8719, Quantum Leap, includes students from both Mason High School and Mason Middle School. Members include senior Alexandra Hendricks, eighth grader Shankar Kalavakolanu, freshman Arnav Komaragiri, junior Keerthi Sekar, eighth grader Shyam Sekar, and freshman Michael Valcarcel.
Quantum Leap advanced to the Ohio State Championship at the Cincinnati Regional Qualifying Tournament on January 28 at Walnut Hills High School, by winning awards in the following categories:

3rd Place Winner of the PTC Design Award
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global organization engaging kids in kindergarten through high school in exciting, Mentor-based, research and robotics programs that help them become science and technology leaders, as well as well-rounded contributors to society. FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) is a branch of FIRST robotics for rising high school students challenging them to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.
