Mason’s Innovative Programs Administrator: Christine McCormickMeet Mason City Schools Innovative Programs Administrator, Christine McCormick.

The Innovative Programs Administrator is a new role in Mason, but didn’t add an administrative position because the district eliminated another technology administrator position. McCormick will lead the ongoing research, development and growth of the district's technology solutions. She will oversee the operations of technology as it is integrated throughout the organization for learning and business solutions. She will also lead Mason's efforts in innovative business solutions as the district continues to look for the best ways to integrate our systems to maximize access to data and productivity.

McCormick comes to Mason after serving seven years as the Director of Innovation and Technology at Forest Hills. Before working in Forest Hills School District, she was an IT Director, Technology Specialist, and a software developer. Christine is most proud of building a sustainable hardware model at Forest Hills which included going 1:1 with a hybrid of Bring Your Own Device/rental in grades 7-12, 1:1 in grades 1-6, 4:1 in kindergarten, and 5:1 in prekindergarten, and her collaboration around new learning environments.

McCormick works directly for Chief Innovation & Strategic Initiatives Officer Jonathan Cooper. “We are so excited to welcome our new Innovative Programs Administrator, Christine McCormick, to the Mason Family. Christine brings enthusiasm, creativity, and innovative leadership to our district. We are moving into a new era in Mason history where we have more devices, more systems, and the most complex and robust infrastructure that we have ever had. We are thrilled that Christine will be joining us at this critical time to help continue moving us forward as we make every effort to continuing growing greatness together.”

5 Questions with Christine

1.    Why are you excited to come to Mason?

I'm excited to come to Mason because of the "fire in your belly" culture! The district's support of innovation, personalized learning, and professional learning made coming to Mason irresistible.

2.)  What are your major priorities this year?

  1. Getting to know our culture, our processes, and our traditions.
  2. Focus on the user experience, learn from it, and improve it wherever possible.

3.)  What’s the biggest misconception people have about technology?

A big misconception, I believe, is that when you move to a 1:1 environment, it means students should be working on their computers all day long. No way! Technology is a tool, like a pencil...with exponentially more possibilities. Do what makes sense and give yourself time to adjust to a new environment. I love IT more than most, but technology isn't always the best tool for an activity. Our Innovative Learning and Academic Coaches can help too!

4.)  What's your favorite movie of all time?

Working Girl. I love Tess' drive, tenacity, and integrity and she embodies an Innovator's Mindset, even before the phrase was coined. I always aspire to have those three qualities, and I've added a few more to my list through the years.

5.)  What’s the most important thing people need to know about you?

I'm here to help. I love listening to new ideas, I'm open to feedback, and want to grow alongside the rest of our staff. Oh, and one more important detail, I like to have fun along the way!
