State Assessments (grades 3-12)

From a district level, a discussion of assessments also includes the state assessments that are used to determine our accountability to state learning standards.

State assessments as a part of our curriculum because the state standards are the foundation of what we teach locally. We understand that they are used to communicate our effectiveness as a district to our taxpayers, our parents, and our community.

In 2015-2016, Ohio withdrew from the PARCC consortium and developed English Language Arts and Math assessments that are specific to Ohio. Each test is two, 90-minute sessions which cuts the testing time considerably.

Although there is no state-authorized procedure for opting out of state assessments, we ask Mason parents who refuse these tests to register their refusal through an online link so that we can accurately take attendance and manage the logistics of testing sessions and create the best possible experience for the majority of our students who participate in these assessments.
