Stewards of Children

In 2011, Mason City Schools became the first Ohio school district to require that each one of its employees participate in Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children child sexual abuse curriculum.  Stewards of Children is a national sexual abuse prevention program designed for youth-serving organizations.  It educates adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse, and equips and empowers adults to keep children safe.

 stewardsAll Mason City Schools staff (administrators, teachers, aides, substitutes, bus drivers, etc.) and any school volunteer who has one-on-one access to children receive Stewards of Children Training before they work in Mason.  In addition, the district created and implemented a Safety Audit Checklist and adopted several procedure changes to enhance its ability to identify and respond to child sexual abuse.

In 2011, the Mason City School District received a "Stewards of Children" award from the Child Advocacy Center of Warren County during the Center's Blue Ribbon Nite Gala.

Director Teresa Wiles presented the award sharing, "This is in recognition of your commitment to Stewards of Children and championing the protection of the community's youth.
