Mason City Schools is a learning culture!Mason Learning Series

Our district believes in providing robust learning opportunities for educators - and in giving teachers choice to personalize their learning. Since 2015, the district offers a summer Mason Learning Series. This year, over 600 Mason teachers led and leaned into learning during the two-day series. Sessions focus on the district's goals and priorities, and the interests of our educators. For example, the 2016 #MasonLearns sessions included breakouts on our new Learning Management System (Schoology),  Personalized Learning, Grading Practices and Feedback, Evidence-based Learning, Integrating Tech, Celebrating Diversity, Social Media, District Finances, and STEM/Maker Culture.

In addition, educators have built-in collaboration opportunities throughout the year. Buildings have organized Building Leadership Teams and and Teacher-Based teams around topics that help our schools advance learning. Teachers collaborate around issues like grading practices, common assessments, and innovative learning opportunities.

At the high school and middle school, periodic early dismissals (called Prime Times) create additional opportunities for teachers to study, plan together and improve instruction.
