MSF Above and Beyond TeachersThe Mason Schools Foundation recently recognized Mason educators for going “above and beyond!”

Western Row third grade teacher Libby Beck, Mason Intermediate teacher Alissa Mahoney, Mason Middle School science teacher Laura Tonkin, Mason High School Honors Anatomy teacher Carol Lehman were each surprised with $200 minigrants and recognized in front of their students and peers.

The teachers will be honored at the Mason Schools Foundation's 10th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, September 15.

“The Mason Schools Foundation is thrilled to recognize these Mason educators!” said Mason Schools Foundation President Kim Rupert. "Their efforts go way "above and beyond" and we are grateful for all they do for our Comet Family!"

Below are excerpts from the nominations.

Word from Nominators about Libby Beck
"Mrs. Beck makes each student feel special. She makes learning fun and has taught both my grandsons several years ago. They still go to visit her in her classroom!"

Word from Nominators about Alissa Mahoney
“This is the second time that we have had the Kling/Mahoney teaching team for one of our children and the experience improves each time. Alissa consistently spends extra time in communication both with parents and in hands-on time with children in order to ensure a child's success. Mrs. Mahoney's first priority is the kids and she is willing to go the extra mile and advocate for your child when you are not in the place to do so.”

Word from Nominators about Laura Tonkin
“Mrs. Tonkin goes above and beyond to make sure that her students understand all the concepts that she is teaching. She is a teacher who is always available to help and to show support. She takes time to work on lessons that are fun for the students and easy to understand. She always puts her students first.”

Word from Nominators about Carol Lehman
“Honors Anatomy is a hard class. Mrs. Lehman makes it very clear on Day 1 that it is but she also makes it clear that we are very brave in taking this class. She is very honest and she knows how to push us and make things hard for us. Although Anatomy is a challenging class, she makes it very fun and engaging. She knows how to include experiences for her life, our lives, and our future into her lessons.”
