Mason Intermediate sixth graders on
Team Endeavor, Team Patriots and
Team Success are collecting socks to create 'Happy Feet!'
"In conjunction with our Social Issues unit, we'd like to give the students an opportunity to help those experiencing homelessness in our area," explained MI Team Success sixth grade teacher
Kelly Affatato. "An easy, but greatly beneficial way our kids can do this is by collecting socks and flip flops for the homeless."
A new, clean pair of socks is a luxury so many of us take for granted, but it can mean the world to someone who may only have one pair of socks, if any. Additionally, shelters are in a great need of flip flops to be used as shower shoes to help maintain sanitary conditions for those moving in and out of shelters.
The items will be collected between January 16-26.
"In addition, we will be having two guest speakers who work with local homeless speaking to our team on January 26," added Affatato. "Our hope is to overwhelm them with socks and flip flops when they visit."
